Filtration foam sheets

These sheets are made from 30 PPI reticulated open‑cell polyurethane foam.

The foam has a net-like, highly porous structure that allows air or water to pass through while trapping debris in the pores. Because it is reticulated (the cell walls are removed), it offers high permeability and surface area, making it suitable for many filtration uses such as aquariums, ponds, HVAC pre-filters and equipment intake screens.

We currently offer two sheet sizes with multiple thickness options from 0.5″ to 4″.

The available sheet sizes are 24″ × 24″ and 50″ × 108″, which cover most DIY and professional filtration projects. Each size can be ordered in 0.5″ thickness increments (0.5″, 1.0″, 1.5″, 2.0″, 2.5″, 3.0″, 3.5″ and 4.0″), so you can choose light, medium or heavy-duty filtration layers depending on your application

PPI stands for “pores per inch,” and 30 PPI is a common choice for general-purpose mechanical filtration. It is fine enough to trap leftover food, fish waste and dust, but open enough to maintain good water or air flow and to avoid clogging too quickly, making it suitable as primary media or a pre-filter in many systems.

The foam can be trimmed easily with common household tools.

You can mark your required dimensions and cut the sheet using scissors, a sharp utility knife or a fine blade. For best results, make slow, straight cuts to keep the edges clean so the foam seats neatly in filter frames, sumps, canister baskets or intake screens without gaps that could reduce filtration efficiency.

Yes, the filtration foam sheets are designed to be rinsed and reused multiple times.

To clean, remove the foam from your system and rinse it under running water, gently squeezing to release trapped debris. For aquarium and pond setups, many users prefer rinsing in a bucket of tank or pond water to avoid sudden changes in water conditions. Avoid harsh twisting, strong chemicals or very hot water, which may shorten the foam’s life.

You can stack different thicknesses or combine these 30 PPI sheets with coarser or finer media, carbon, or other filter materials to build a filtration chain tailored to your needs. Many users place a thicker or coarser foam layer first as a pre-filter and then add finer media behind it to improve debris capture and extend service intervals.

Choose thinner foam for lighter pre-filtration and thicker foam for deeper filtration and structure.

For tight spaces or low-resistance pre-filters, 0.5″–1″ thickness usually works well. For sumps, ponds, and higher-load mechanical filtration, 1.5″–3″ provides more depth to hold debris.
